How to protect your carpet color
In addition to frequent vacuuming, it’s important to clean your carpet on a regular basis. Cleaning systems will remove the oily, sticky soil that vacuums can't take out, and will help keep your carpet looking great over time.
Cleaning systems target the soils that result from cooking vapors, air pollution, and tracked-in dirt. The particles of oily soil deposited on carpet fibers can cause gradual but significant dulling of colors. The color isn't lost, but is hidden under the film. If this type of soil is allowed to accumulate, it begins to attract and hold the dry soil.
Get on a cleaning schedule
If carpet is cleaned before it becomes too unsightly, the cleaning chore will be easier and more successful. Carpet in a typical household should be cleaned every 12 to 18 months, depending on the number of residents and amount of activity.
Choosing the proper cleaning system is important. Some systems may leave residues which accelerate re-soiling and defeats the whole purpose of cleaning.
Hot water extraction
Research indicates that the hot water extraction system provides the best capability for cleaning. This system is commonly referred to as "steam cleaning," although no steam is actually generated. The process consists of applying a cleaning agent into the carpet pile and using water in the extractor to recover the used solution and soil. This can be done from a truck-mounted unit outside the home with only the hose and wand brought inside or by a portable system brought into the home.
How to care for carpet
Care and Cleaning;
Regular vacuuming helps rugs retain their beauty and extends the life of the rug. Clean spills immediately; blot with a clean cloth; spot clean with a solution of clear dish washing detergent and water (1/4 tsp. to 1 quart of warm water), rinse with water and blot dry. Do not dry clean. Do not bleach.
Professional cleaning is recommended periodically using the hot water extraction method.
Stains and soil
The majority of stain complaints are actually soil related. For example, many sugar-based spills, such as soft drinks and coffee, leave a sugar residue after removal. This sticky residue readily attracts soil from ordinary shoe traffic, and the resulting discolored area appears to be a stain.
The same thing happens when spills are cleaned with a detergent solution and the area is not sufficiently rinsed with plain water, leaving a sticky detergent residue. It is important to rinse thoroughly with water and blot dry after removing any spill.
You will want to reference your Warranty for specific care requirements.
What are different types of carpet materials?
Nylon
The most frequently used carpet fiber, highly desirable due to its exceptional durability, versatility, and reasonable pricing. It can be dyed in an endless variety of colors and made into numerous styles and textures. Nylon is commonly used in residential and commercial applications.
Polyester
Used in residential and a few commercial applications, polyester has good color clarity, colorfastness, and resistance to water-soluble stains. All of Mohawk's staple polyester yarn comes from our state-of-the-art plastic bottle recycling facility. This "food-grade" PET Polyester fiber might be considered to be better quality than "carpet-grade" polyester fiber.
Polypropylene
Also known as Olefin, this fiber resists fading, generates low levels of static electricity, is favorably priced, and can be engineered in outdoor applications. Due to its manufacturing process, polypropylene inherently resists stains. When used in specific carpet constructions, this yarn will perform as well as most resilient fibers.
Wool
The most expensive of the fibers listed here, it naturally resists stains, soiling and even static electricity. Wool is easy to maintain. A natural, renewable source and is also recyclable, helping to maintain our environment for future generations.
What do the different carpet terms mean?
TEXTURE
Create a less formal look with the smooth, level finish of twisted yarns.
PATTERN
Go for dramatic, unique visuals with loops and cuts of varying heights.
LOOP
Create texture with uneven loops, or choose uncut level loops for high-traffic areas.
TWIST
Go for a soft, comfortable, casual look with this longer cut pile, also known as Frieze.
Do you offer a warranty?
We have been in business for 39 years. We stand behind our work and our products and warranty everything for one year. Each product comes with manufacture warranty, we would be happy to provide you with any warranty information.
My house has heated floors; can I still put a carpet over it?
Yes. Underneath your floor there is a whole system of water pipes, therefore the carpet installation procedure will be a little bit different than normal. For heated floors, the carpet installers will use glue instead of nails. Usage of nails on heated floors can result in flood and water damage.
Does our new carpet need to be professionally treated for stain resistance?
No. The carpet industry today offers high quality fibers that don't need to be treated with any protectants. All guards are simply built into the fiber through a stain and soil resistance treatment. This new generation of fibers naturally resists a wide variety of stains, fading, and the typical punishment of everyday soiling. Each manufacture has information available for your carpet.
Can I measure the area myself and bring the dimensions to your store for quote?
Yes you can, we would be happy to give you an idea of how much carpet you will need. But before we can give you a final estimate and place your order, we need to send our professionals to your home to measure and see the layout. A professional measure prevents mistakes and if there is a mistake and we measured we fix it with no cost to you, if you measure you are responsible for any errors.
How long does carpet delivery and installation take?
If you choose a carpet that needs to be ordered from the manufacturer it usually takes two weeks for installation.
Installation itself depends not only on the size of the room, but also a few other factors like old carpet removal and /or the moving of furniture. Sometimes weight of the carpet or its construction matters. For instance, patterned carpets need to be matched and installing this kind of carpet is more time consuming. In a nutshell, installation time varies but based on your order details we can estimate the time for the installation.
What is there an advantage engineered products over solid products?
Yes. In general, engineered products can be installed in any room in the home, whether on-grade, below-grade or above-grade. Engineered products can be nailed down, glued-down or stapled down, depending upon the situation. Engineered product, can be glued down, stapled down or some can be “floated” over most subfloors without the use of nails or adhesives, making it ideal for remodeling. Solid products are not recommended for below grade installations and must be nailed down or glued down.
What is the difference between engineered floor versus a solid hardwood product?
Engineered products, available in Planks, Strips are manufactured of hardwood using a cross-directional laminated construction (3 to 5 layers), with a top layer of premium hardwood. This construction counteracts the natural tendency of wood to expand and contract with seasonal changes in temperature and humidity, making engineered products inherently dimensionally stable. Solid products, available in Planks, Strips or Parquet, are manufactured from a solid piece of wood.
When can I walk on my new hardwood floor?

When a window fashion is called "energy efficient," what does that mean?
At Hunter Douglas, an energy efficient window fashion is a product that helps to conserve energy inside a home. All Hunter Douglas products help to conserve energy inside a home. Our highest rated energy efficient window fashion is our Duette® Architella® honeycomb shade.
